There are many restaurants in Cape Town. In fact so many that it is difficult to get a chance to experience them all, but there is a handful you simply have to try – and one of these is The Foodbarn in Noordhoek Farmer’s Village.

I have explored almost all of the restaurants in the Farmer’s Village, and each of them has their own unique qualities that make them special.

The Foodbarn is the perfect option for a romantic night out with a cosy atmosphere, tasteful décor and fine dining. It is a place where balance is key, with wine paired to perfection with a plate of food that not only gets the presentation right, but also the colours and tastes. This all thanks to chef and co-founder Franck Dangereaux’s amazing talent.

Nothing about The Foodbarn is pretentious. Rather, its presentation and setting is a true reflection of a perfect combination of foods and atmosphere.

The menu offers just enough variety to please diners, with options of sustainable fish, red meats like Karoo lamb and a favourite dessert. Each meal has a suggested wine to pair it with, ensuring the flavours speak to each other and your dining pleasure reaches the ultimate level.

If you generally find it hard to decide on only one course, you may want to treat yourself to the Tasting Menu. This is a four or five course option that includes a little taste of each meal, and of course the wine that goes with it.

I myself stuck to one part of the menu, and thoroughly enjoyed the grilled sustainable fish (which was tuna) and a crunchy Vietnamese salad with soba noodles and sesame seeds all rounded off with Tom yum vinaigrette. For dessert I went all out with a Belgian chocolate and soft biscuit terrine, vanilla ice cream, toffee, chocolate and vanilla sauce. It simply was to die for!

But don’t take my word for it, take a drive over the mountain to the Southern Peninsula and you too may realise Foodbarn’s motto – ‘food is everything, a way of life.’
